BATON ROUGE – Thomas McGaughey, who served as LSU’s special teams coordinator for the past three years, has been named to the same position with the New York Jets, the organization announced on Thursday.
In his three years with the Tigers, McGaughey helped LSU to a 33-7 overall mark, which included the 13-0 regular season record and the Southeastern Conference title in 2011. The Tigers also went 10-3 in both 2012 and 2013 and played in bowl games all three years.
Among McGaughey’s standouts during his time at LSU include two All-America return specialists in Tyrann Mathieu and Odell Beckham Jr., along with All-America punter Brad Wing.
“This is a great opportunity for Thomas,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “He will do a great job with the Jets. We wish Thomas and his family continued success in the future.”
Miles said he will begin an immediate search for McGaughey’s replacement.
