BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A day after being named All-SEC Second Team, LSU outside hitter Madie Jones picked up SEC Community Service Team honors for her dedication and leadership off-the-court Tuesday as announced by the league office. It marked the second time that Jones has garnered this award.

Jones, an industrial engineering major, is involved with countless community service efforts and serves as the president of LSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Jones along with fellow volleyball seniors Sam Delahoussaye, Victoria Jacobsen and Meghan Mannari spearheaded the program's philanthropy project, "PAWS in the PMAC," during the 2012 season. As part of the campaign, the Tigers collected close to 1,250 items ranging from food to toys that were donated to benefit the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS).

"We're extremely proud of the impact that Madie has made on the LSU and Baton Rouge communities off the court," head coach Fran Flory said. "She is the complete definition of a student-athlete and embodies the true spirit of our program. Her leadership skills and drive to succeed will enable Madie to be successful in whatever she decides to do after graduation."

Other service projects Jones has been involved with include "Thanksgiving with the Tigers" where her team adopted an underprivileged child for the holidays. The Tigers provided the child with gifts at a special program, while serving a Thanksgiving style meal.

Jones and her teammates have been frequent visitors to Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital where they go room-to-room visiting hospital patients and their families to cheer them up with autographed posters.

In the classroom, Jones has been a three-time SEC Honor Roll recipient during her career in addition to being the president of LSU's Institute of Industrial Engineers.

LSU's seven-year run atop the SEC Western Division came to a close during the 2012 season. The streak was the second-longest in SEC history only behind Florida's 14-year atop the SEC Eastern Division from 1995-2008. The Tigers are scheduled to return 10 letterwinners in 2013.
