EMERSON, Ga. – In the semifinals of the CCSA Conference Championship tournament, the LSU beach volleyball team (18-8) fell to Georgia State 3-2 at the LakePoint Sports Complex.

LSU will return home next weekend for its final tournament of the season in the Battle on the Bayou.

“Ultimately, our goal is to win, so we weren’t able to achieve that,” said associate head coach Russell Brock. “We all felt that the match was within our reach. We played well and had a great weekend, but we still have work to do. The season is coming to a close, and we’ve been playing really well, but it wasn’t quite enough to get over the hump (against Georgia State). That was a little disappointing, but it doesn’t diminish how hard we worked and how (the players) came together to have success in the first conference championship tournament.”

The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the three spot as Cati Leak and Callan Molle fell in straight sets 11-21, 17-21. No. 2 pair Helen Boyle and Lilly Kessler helped tie the match for the Tigers with a 21-16 21-14 victory in two sets. LSU found itself down 2-1 after Orellana and Young were defeated in a two-setter 19-21, 14-21. On court one, Katie Lindelow and Ashley Allmer fell in straight sets 18-21, 19-21 as Georgia State clinched the match. Megan Davenport and Cheyenne Wood tacked on LSU’s second and final point of the match after a medical forfeit.

Despite the loss, No. 2 tandem Boyle and Kessler were named to the CCSA All-Tournament team for the weekend. The pair went a combined 4-1 on the weekend with wins against UAB, South Carolina, Florida Atlantic and Georgia State.

"I think steady is a really good word (to describe them),” said Brock. "They’ve been very consistent and great for us all year. To have them represent our program in the All-Tournament team is a great honor, and it is well deserved."

LSU will return to action on Saturday against UNO at 10 a.m. at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club off of Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge.
