FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Dajour Braxton led the Tigers placing 30th and helping the men finish 11th, while the junior Morgan Schuetz led the Lady Tigers to 13th place as she finished 63rd overall at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival.

A total of 33 teams competed in the 8k and 5k race including Division I and college teams. The men finished with a total of 254 points and the women finished with 349 points.

Arkansas defended their home course both in the 8k and 5k race with the men placing first with 26 points and the women winning with 18 points. Arkansas’ Dominique Scott won the 5k race with a time of 16 minutes and 7.18 seconds, and Marc Scott from the University of Tulsa won the 8k race with a time of 23:30.90.

“Today didn’t go as well as I had hoped,” Head Coach Khadevis Robinson said. “Dajour Braxton and Jackson Fountain ran really well. Both are freshman, so that is promising. The rest didn’t run as I expected. I have to figure out a way to get them better prepared.”

Braxton led the Tigers and crossed the finish line with a time of 24:34.18. Junior Christian Johnson was the second runner to finish for the Tigers placing 88th with a time of 25:28.34.

Freshman Jackson Fountain finished in the top-150 for the Tigers, clocking 25:45.92 for 122nd, and sophomore Bryan Stamey posted a time of 26:02.76 for 151st place.

Schuetz led the way for the Lady Tigers for the third straight week finishing 63rd with a time of 17:58.09. Freshman Hannah Bourque was the second Lady Tiger to cross the finish line with a time of 18:40.32 for 139th place. Freshman Erika Lewis also placed in the top-150 clocking 18:44.08.

After competing in Fayetteville, the LSU cross country teams will have two weeks to prepare for the Crimson Classic held on October 16 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Tigers and Lady Tigers will compete at Harry Pritchett RC with the women starting at 5 p.m. and the men following shortly behind at 5:30 p.m.
