BATON ROUGE – The 20th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team’s run at the 2016 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament ended against top-seeded Florida, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the LSU Tennis Complex.

With the loss, LSU dropped to 18-11 on the season. The Lady Tigers now await their NCAA postseason destination. The selection show will be streamed live on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 3, at 4 p.m. CT.

“The score really doesn’t tell the whole story from today,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “When you play clinch-clinch, you never know what could happen in the matches that were abandoned. Ella (Taylor) lost on court six but she had seven deuce games and lost every single one. That match was so much closer than it looked. We came even closer than the regular season and that is what we can take moving forward.”

LSU fell into a 0-3 hole after dropping the doubles point along with losses on courts three and five. Ryann Foster dropped court three 6-1, 6-1 to Kourtney Keegan and Abby Owens fell 6-4, 6-3 to Anna Danilina on five.

Joana Vale Costa, Jessica Golovin and Skylar Kuykendall all took the first set on courts one, two and four but the Gators mounted a comeback and pushed all three to a third set.

The final court came down to Spencer Liang and Ella Taylor on court six. Liang ultimately took the court 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the semifinal berth for No. 3Florida.

LSU returns to the practice courts over the next few weeks before competing in the NCAA Regional May 13-15.
