Women's Tennis Falls at Texas A&M, 4-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 19 Texas A&M clinched the doubles point and took the top three courts to defeat No. 18 LSU, 4-0, in the teams’ final regular season match Friday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Lady Tigers dropped to 17-10 and 6-7 in league play. The Aggies improved to 15-9 and 7-6 in conference. Both teams await their seed for the 2016 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament held April 20-24, at the LSU Tennis Complex.

Texas A&M opened up by taking the doubles point with 6-4 wins on courts one and two. The 30th-ranked team of Eva Paalma and Rachel Pierson took down Ryann Foster and Abby Owens on one. No. 69 Rutuja Bhosale and Anna Mamalat defeated Skylar Holloway and Skylar Kuykendall on two.

In singles play, Kuykendall, Owens and Ella Taylor took the first set on the bottom three courts for LSU. The Aggies gained control of the match though with courts one through three.

Bhosale took down No. 57 Jessica Golovin 6-3, 6-3 on court two for Texas A&M’s first singles point.

No. 20 Joana Vale Costa put up a fight on court one against No. 32 Saska Gavrilovska but ultimately fell 7-5, 7-5.

Pierson closed out the match for the Aggies on three with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Foster.

LSU returns to action Thursday for the SEC Tournament. It marks the third time that the tournament has been held in Baton Rouge. It is also the first tournament at the LSU Tennis Complex. Visit LSUsports.net/16SECWT for more information.
