Women's Tennis Falls to Auburn, 4-1

AUBURN, Ala. -- The ninth-ranked LSU women’s tennis team suffered its first Southeastern Conference loss of the season, 4-1, to No. 29 Auburn Saturday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

LSU dropped to 12-4 and 1-1 in the SEC. Auburn secured its second top-15 win of the weekend and improved to 14-3 and 2-0 in conference.

“I have to give a lot of credit to this Auburn team. They competed hard with a lot of energy today,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “I’m proud of our team for their effort and intensity. We just have to get back to our standard moving forward.”

Auburn captured the momentum with the doubles point and never looked back. Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud defeated Joana Vale Costa and Ryann Foster 6-4. Danie Dikosavljeiv and Paula de Man then clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Abby Owens and Skylar Kuykendall on court two.

In singles play, Auburn dominated the top two courts to get out to a 3-0 lead over LSU. No. 32 Dikosavlejvic took down No. 20 vale Costa 6-1, 6-4. Golovin then dropped court two 2-6, 3-6 to Burgmans.

Owens secured LSU’s lone point with a victory on five. Owens defeated de Man 6-4, 6-3 to move to 11-3 on the spring.

Caroline Turner clinched the match for Auburn with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ella Taylor on court five.

The Lady Tigers return to Baton Rouge for their second conference weekend of the season. LSU takes on Ole Miss at 4 p.m. Friday and Mississippi State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
