BATON ROUGE -- LSU Diver and Southeastern Conference Male Freshman Diver of the Year, Michael Neubacher, was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team, the league office announced Friday.

The SEC All-Freshman team honors the league’s top freshmen finishers in each individual event from the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships that were held in Tuscaloosa, Ala., in late February. This is the first year for the All-Freshman team.

Neubacher earned honors in all three diving events after scoring top-five finishes in all three events at the conference championships. The Windermere, Fla., native’s most notable finish was in the platform where he placed second with a score of 431.55.
He placed fifth in the 3-meter (376.90) and 1-meter dive (325.45).

Georgia’s Mark Dylla was the only freshman to win a title as he claimed gold in the 200 fly. Dylla is also the SEC Male Freshman Swimmer of the Year.

On the women’s side, SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Year, Aleksa Akerfelds of Tennessee, led the way as she finished as the top freshman in three events including the 500 free, the 400 IM and the 1,650 free. Auburn and Georgia each had three different athletes named to the team, and Kentucky’s Jessie Snowden claimed honors in two of the three diving events. Snowden is the SEC Female Freshman Diver of the Year.
