KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The LSU women's golf team concluded the fall portion of the 2011-12 season with a 15th place finish in the 23-team SEC-Pac 12 Gold Challenge Sunday at the Holston Hills Country Club.

The Lady Tigers were 10-over on the final day, but a first round of 19-over was too much for LSU to overcome as they finished the 54-hole event at 36-over par 900 (307-295-298). Alabama won the competition for the Southeastern Conference at 1-over 865 (284-289-292), four shots ahead of UCLA, the defending national champion, at 5-over 869 (281-297-291). Auburn was third at 15-over 879, one shot ahead of host Tennessee and Southern Cal (16-over 880).

With the second place finish, UCLA becomes the final major college women's team to fall from the undefeated ranks for the season.

LSU posted a 1-over round of 73 by Jacqueline Hedwall and 2-over rounds of 74 by Tessa Teachman and Austin Ernst with Madelene Sagstrom and Lindsay Gahm scoring 5-over 77s. Hedwall finished with a 54-hole total of 222 (74-75-73) and a tied for 34th place.

Although LSU did not have its best three days for the second straight year in this event, it was a successful fall overall the nationally ranked Lady Tigers getting two wins in the four tournaments heading to the spring portion of the schedule. That spring portion will be highlighted by the annual LSU Tiger Golf Classic, March 9-11, at the University Club in Baton Rouge.

"It's been a good fall," said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. "We look forward to the spring. We have some very good players and we have some good trips on the schedule that will test us and get us ready for post-season play."
