Women's Golf Third After Day 1 in at Silverado

NAPA, Calif. – The LSU women’s golf team, looking to find the late season momentum prior to conference tournament play, opened the Silverado Showdown here Sunday with a strong round of 5-over par 293 that puts them in a tie for third after the opening 18 holes.
Only one team, Stanford, was able to get an under par team score of 2-under par 286, with tournament co-host Colorado at 2-over par 290 in second. LSU is tied for third with the other tournament co-host Oregon which also posted 293 at the Silverado Resort Course.
LSU’s five players proved consistent from top to bottom in the play five, count four setup of college golf. It was the two freshman in the lineup that led LSU with Marina Hedlund getting four birdies and Kathleen Gallagher five birdies in even par rounds of 72.
That puts both of them in a group tie for ninth at even par, five shots out of the lead of Cathleen Santoso of Oregon, who posted 5-under 67 to lead the way after 18 holes.
The Lady Tigers actually led the field in birdies on the opening round with 18 among the five players, and also led the field playing the par 3 holes in 4-under par. Both Hedlund and Cavin were -2 on the par three holes. Gallagher is in a group with five birdies on the round after three Oregon players led the field with six birdies apiece in their round.
The second round begins at 9:45 a.m. CT with LSU set to play with Stanford and Colorado in the final wave off the front nine at starting at 11:24 a.m. Live scoring is available at LSUsports.net through Golfstatresults.com.
