ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Sophomore Luis Gagne fired the team’s low round Sunday with a 4-under par 68 and fellow sophomore Sam Burns cracked the Top 10 of the final leaderboard as the top Tiger for the weekend to lead LSU to an 11th-place team finish at this year’s Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate at the Lakeside Course.

The Tigers finished 15 shots off the pace as Virginia and Texas tied for the team title with final scores of 8-under par 856 for a one-shot victory over Stanford and Southern California in a tie for third place.

Burns tied for ninth place individually after matching senior teammate Eric Ricard with a 1-under par 71 in the final round, while fellow senior Brandon Pierce added the team’s fourth counting score of the day with a 2-under par 70 at the par-72 Lakeside Course. Sophomore Nathan Jeansonne rounded out the lineup on the day with an even-par 72.

Gagne Closes Strong

Gagne catapulted himself 27 spots up the leaderboard with his 4-under 68 in Sunday’s final round at the Lakeside Course as he carded one eagle and four birdies along with one double bogey over the final 18 holes.

Starting the round on the back nine with the rest of his teammates, Gagne was quick off the mark with a birdie at the par-five 11th and dropped to 2-under par for the day with a birdie at the par-four 15th. He picked up two more shots and moved to 4-under par for the first time with an eagle 3 at the par-five first hole before giving those two shots back with a double bogey at the par-four fourth. Gagne closed out his team-low round of 68 with two more birdies at the par-four fifth and par-five ninth to finish in a tie for 33rd place at 3-over 219.

Burns Finishes Top 10 … Again!

While Gagne might have wrapped up the tournament with the team’s low round of the day, Burns was the top Tiger on the weekend as he cracked the Top 10 of the final leaderboard in a ninth-place tie with a final 54-hole score of 4-under par 212. Burns matched Ricard with his own score of 1-under 71 in Sunday’s action for his fourth-straight top-10 finish to open his sophomore season.

Burns tied for ninth place at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate after already tying for sixth place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic, placing eighth at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and tying teammates Pierce, Ricard and Gagne for medalist honors at the David Toms Intercollegiate in his last start.

Golfweek’s No. 11-ranked player nationally will only rise in the rankings with his performance this fall as he emerged from the weekend as the team’s leading scorer with a 70.08 stroke average in 12 rounds.

Rounding Out The Lineup

Pierce moved 14 spots up the leaderboard with his 2-under 70 and Ricard moved eight spots up the standings with his 1-under 71 as they tied one another for 52nd place overall with final totals of 6-over 222. Jeansonne posted his lowest score of the weekend with an even-par 72 on Sunday to wrap up the tournament in a tie for 56th place with a final score of 7-over par 223.
