BATON ROUGE -- LSU right-hander Austin Ross was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office.
Ross, a sophomore from Shreveport, La., fired six shutout innings in LSU’s 16-0 win over UCF on Sunday, allowing just two hits while recording no walks and a career-best 10 strikeouts. Ross fired 81 pitches during his outing, and he did not allow a UCF runner to advance beyond first base.
Ross is 2-0 on the year with a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings on the mound. He has allowed one run on six hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts.
Ross’ honor marks the second straight week an LSU player has received an SEC award. Second baseman Ryan Schimpf was named SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 23.
No. 1 LSU (7-0) returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Tigers face New Orleans at UNO’s Maestri Field.
