Pitching Matchups Announced for Purple-Gold Series

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU coach Paul Mainieri announced on Monday the pitching matchups for the LSU Baseball Purple-Gold World Series. The three-game intrasquad series signals the conclusion of LSU’s six-week fall practice session.
Game 1 of the series begins at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Game 2 is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, and Game 3 will start at 7 p.m. on Friday. All three games will be six innings, and they are open to the public with free admission.
Game 2 on Thursday will match Gold freshman right-hander Ma’Khail Hilliard versus Purple junior right-hander Caleb Gilbert.
The event features former LSU players serving as guest coaches. Sean Ochinko (catcher/first baseman, 2007-09) will manage the Gold squad, and he will be assisted by Ryan Schimpf (infielder, 2007-09), Andrew Stevenson (outfielder, 2013-15), Leon Landry (outfielder (2008-10) and Anthony Ranaudo (pitcher, 2008-10).
The Purple team will be managed by Kramer Robertson (infielder, 2014-17), and he will be assisted by Cole Freeman (infielder, 2016-17), Jared Poche’ (pitcher, 2014-17), Greg Deichmann (outfielder, 2015-17) and Alex Lange (pitcher, 2015-17).
Pitch count limits will be in effect as the LSU pitchers continue their development in preparation for the 2018 season, which begins on Friday, February 16, when the Tigers play host to Notre Dame in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
