BATON ROUGE -- Those Tiger and Lady Tiger track and field athletes having yet to qualify for next week's NCAA Indoor Championships will have one last chance to do so at either the LSU Invitational or the Notre Dame-hosted Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend.
LSU is sending eight athletes on the bubble to the Alex Wilson Invitational in Great Bend, Ind.
The Tigers' distance medley relay team of Michael Hendry, Austin Benton, Isa Phillips and Pat Gavin will look to improve on their school record and NCAA provisional mark of 9:41.04 set earlier this year.
Also seeking to better their provisional marks at that meet are Lady Tigers Meisue Francis and Tanya Osbourne in the 800 meters, Cynetheia Rooks in the 400 meters and Tiger Jeffrey Parker in the 800 meters.
At the LSU Invitational, Tiger Ricky Jean-Francois will go after second straight personal best performance in the men's shot put to secure a trip to the national meet. The freshman launched the shot 60-1 1/4 in earning All-SEC honors at the conference championships last week, but still sits just outside the championships field.
In addition, sophomore Kathy Coleman and freshman Trindon Holliday will look to improve their marks in the long jump and the 60-meter dash, respectively.
Up next, LSU will close out the indoor season at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March 10-11.
