Brisco Named to The Bowerman 2018 Preseason Watch List
NEW ORLEANS – It should be no surprise that LSU senior sprinter Mikiah Brisco has been named to The Bowerman 2018 Women’s Preseason Watch List today. Brisco, the 2017 100-meter dash national champion, is one of 10 athletes named to the list.
The Baton Rouge native is one of the most prolific sprinters in LSU track & field history. Brisco broke 11 seconds in the national final at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June, crossing the finish line in 10.96. She is LSU’s eighth NCAA 100-meter champion and produced the fifth-best time on the NCAA’s all-time list in the event. Brisco also picked up All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 60-meter dash with an eighth-place finish.
“This is a great honor for Mikiah and for our program,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver. “Mikiah is the next one up in a long list of LSU competitors carrying on the tradition of national and international caliber performances. It is fantastic to see her achievements recognized as among the tops in the nation.”
Over her three-year career with the Lady Tigers, Brisco is a two-time NCAA Champion and eight-time All-American. In addition to her 100-meter title, she was a member of the LSU national champion 4x100 relay team in 2016. She is also a 4-time SEC Champion and has earned All-SEC honors seven times.
As a junior in 2017, Brisco earned All-SEC honors at the Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100-meter, 100-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x100 relay team. At the Indoor Championships in February, she received All-SEC accolades in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles.
This is the seventh season that LSU has had a student-athlete considered for The Bowerman. Kimberlyn Duncan won the trophy in 2012 and was a finalist in 2011. She was also a semifinalist in 2013. Other LSU notables were semifinalists Walter Henning (2010) and Vernon Norwood (2015). Henning also was on the 2011 men’s watch list, while Semoy Hackett was named to the list in 2011 and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake in 2016.
The Bowerman Watch List will be updated throughout the 2018 NCAA indoor and outdoor track & field seasons with the semifinalists set for announcement on June 13. For more information on The Bowerman Award, visit ustfccca.org.
