BATON ROUGE – LSU student-athletes, coaches and staff spent their Saturday assisting the incoming Class of 2023 as they moved into their new residence halls during the Department of Residential Life’s Move-In Day.

Senior women’s tennis player Paris Corley and incoming freshman swimmer Summer Stanfield were on the giving and receiving end of Move-In Day. Corley stated, “It’s nice that LSU Athletics can help today. Freshmen moving in for the first year is exciting for them, so it’s nice for us to be able to help out.”

For Stanfield, it was an opportunity to meet new friends. “It’s definitely fun getting to see how excited everyone is and getting to know some new people. It’s cool to meet people who I might be in class with or I might see around campus so it’s been really fun.”

Having friendly faces around to assist the incoming freshman made the process much more fun and exciting.

Nakhari Quinn and his mother, Lakeita, were one of many families that benefitted from the assistance of the LSU student-athletes. They acknowledged what a great help the members of the women’s tennis team were in getting settled in.

“The ladies here from the women’s tennis team helped me tremendously,” said Lakeita. “I’m by myself moving my son in, and the women were able to move things without me even lifting a hand. I really appreciate them.”

Nakhari, an architecture major, echoed his mother’s sentiment. “The women’s tennis team were a great help. They got almost all of my stuff out of my car, and were very quick and fast. There was no problem.”

LSU Athletics has participated in move-in day for seven years now and it continues to be a success. The new students are settled in and will participate in Welcome Week activities before the Fall semester begins on Monday, August 26.

Assistant swimming and diving coach Caroline Maxvill was a part of the team contingent that helped out throughout the morning. “We moved our team members in a couple of days ago. I think it’s good because they were settled in and could come out here and be a part of helping other incoming students move in. It really helps our student-athletes get in touch with main campus and main campus realizes that the athletes are just like them even though they play a sport.

“It’s awesome to see them out here and to see teamwork already forming. Doing events like this helps you quickly feel like a team which is nice.”
