GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In its first road test and in front of a sellout crowd of more than 9,000 fans, the top-ranked LSU gymnastics team fought to take down No. 7 Florida, 197.250-197.125 Friday night in Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 overall and in the Southeastern Conference. The win marked the third straight over Florida in the regular season and the second straight in Gainesville. Senior Myia Hambrick took home the all-around title with a score of 39.550.

“Florida is a very experienced and senior-laden team,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “Our team tonight fought like Fighting Tigers from freshman Sami Durante’s first bars routine to Sarah Finnegan’s beam routine. Sami set the grit and proved that we would not be denied tonight.”

“The freshmen also did a fabulous job, and they’re going to get better as the year goes along. Myia Hambrick, Lexie Priessman, Erin Macadaeg and Sarah Finnegan all set the table for this team with their experience. The freshmen just pushed and pushed. It was a fabulous performance and to beat Florida so early in the season at home with a packed house was huge.”

Bars Sets the Tone to Start
In her first career performance on the road, Durante started strong with a 9.80. Hambrick followed in the second spot with a 9.90. Following a fall, the squad rebounded with a 9.90 from Kennedi Edney, 9.875 from Priessman and 9.775 from Finnegan for a 49.150 on bars.

Tigers Get Out to Lead with Great Vault

Hambrick Anchors Outstanding Floor Lineup
Hambrick took home the floor title with a 9.95 in the anchor spot to match her career high. LSU also used strong scores of 9.90 from Edney, 9.875 from Finnegan and 9.85 from Ruby Harrold to score a 49.350.

Beam Closes the Meet with a 49.400
With the meet going back and forth, it was up to the Tigers’ beam squad which featured two freshmen to secure the road win. Macadaeg and Hambrick started things off with a pair of 9.90s. The second half of the lineup finished things off with a 9.85 from Christina Desiderio, 9.825 from Reagan Campbell and 9.925 from Finnegan.
