Soccer Receives Team Academic Award
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer team has not only performed among the nation’s best on the field during the 2017 season, but the Tigers are also among the leaders in the classroom while being honored for the seventh year in a row with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award.
The Tigers, who posted a 3.28 team grade-point average during the 2016-17 academic year, were recognized among 540 women’s programs from across the country for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for that time. They have now been honored in each of the last seven years since the fall of 2011and 11 times in the program’s history.
The United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday that 827 college soccer programs have been recognized as Team Academic Award recipients for the 2016-17 academic year, including 287 men and 540 women.
The organization has now recognized 11 of the SEC’s 14 women’s soccer programs with this year’s Team Academic Award as LSU joins the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Programs omitted from this year’s list of award winners include Arkansas, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
