BATON ROUGE – LSU senior offensive tackle Peter Dyakowski has been named to the ESPN.com All-Bowl Team, the website announced on Friday.
The team, which was selected by ESPN.com writer Ivan Maisel, featured a total of five players from the Southeastern Conference with Dyakowski serving as the only offensive player from the SEC. Other SEC players on the team included a pair of Florida defensive ends in Derrick Harvey and Jarvis Moss, Auburn defensive tackle Josh Thompson and Georgia linebacker Tony Taylor.
Dyakowski played a key role in LSU’s 41-14 win over 11th-ranked Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. The Tigers rolled up a season-high 577 yards of total offense against the Irish. LSU had 245 yards rushing and 332 yards passing in the win.
In selecting Dyakowski for the ESPN.com All-Bowl team, Maisel said, “In LSU’s 41-14 rout of Notre Dame, Dyakowski shut down the Irish’s standout defensive end Victor Abiamiri. Yes, Abiamiri assisted on a sack of Tiger quarterback JaMarcus Russell on the last play of the first quarter, and yes, Russell fumbled and lost the ball. But the assist was the only tackle Abiamiri made the entire game.”
Abiamiri entered the contest with 42 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for losses and a team-best 10 sacks. Abiamiri went without a tackle for the final three quarters of the game as the Tigers outscored the Irish, 27-7, as well as outgaining Notre Dame, 473 to 181, over the final 45 minutes of the contest.
