BATON ROUGE -- Former LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd continues to make progress following a car accident that sent him to the hospital on Sunday in Miami.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Byrd has made “tremendous progress over the past two days” and was said to be “alert and responsive” to both the doctors and his mom. Byrd is expected to make a full recovery.
Byrd was injured in a one-car accident on Sunday morning in Miami.

Athletes First has issued the following statement in response to the news that our client and 2009 NFL draft prospect Demetrius Byrd was involved in a car accident in Miami, Florida yesterday.
“We are saddened by the news that our good friend and client Demetrius Byrd was involved in a car accident yesterday morning. He is currently being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, and based on early reports, we are optimistic that he will make a full recovery.”
David Dunn, Athletes First CEO and Demetrius’ NFL representative, added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Demetrius, and with his mother Sharon and the entire Byrd family.”
