BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnastics coach D-D Breaux and sophomore Rheagan Courville were recognized and commended for a stellar 2013 season at the East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council meeting at City Hall on Wednesday.

District 10 Councilmember Tara Wicker honored Breaux and Courville by presenting each with a certificate of recognition for the team and individual accomplishments this past season.

“It was a special honor to be recognized by our city council,” Breaux said. “It is a mission of our team not only to achieve success in the gym and the classroom but also to serve our community.”

LSU advanced to the NCAA Super Six for the third time in school history in 2013 as the Tigers tied the school record for most 197 scores in a season with eight and earned a fifth-place finish in the national title meet.

Breaux collected NCAA Central Region Coach of the Year honors for the sixth time in her career and Courville was named as the 2013 SEC Gymnast of the Year.

A Baton Rouge native, Courville won the NCAA vault national title and finished as the national runner up in the all-around on her way to claiming six All-America honors in 2013.

“I am very thankful for the support of the community that I grew up in,” Courville said. “It is such an honor to represent LSU, Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana.”
