BATON ROUGE - The LSU men's golf program has not only enjoyed tremendous success on the course over the past year, but they have also proven themselves as campus leaders in the classroom while posting the highest team grade-point average among all men's sports teams at LSU during the 2011-12 academic year.

The Tiger golfers were recognized for their academic performance during the 2013 Tiger Athletic Foundation Academic Excellence Gala held Monday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Members of the LSU men's golf team posted a stellar 3.09 GPA as a group during the 2011-12 academic year during a campaign in which they captured three tournament titles and earned a berth in NCAA Regional play for the fifth-straight season with an appearance at the NCAA Palo Alto Regional.

In addition, former Tiger standouts Austin Gutgsell and Sang Yi, junior Smylie Kaufman and sophomores Myles Lewis and Curtis Thompson were honored as recipients of an LSU Scholar-Athlete Director's Cup for their academic performance and recognized for their selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll  in 2012.
