BATON ROUGE - LSU football players Anthony Johnson, Jarvis Landry and Zach Mettenberger participated in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart event earlier this week at Dutchtown Primary School.

This event marked the kickoff for the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser at Dutchtown Primary School. In the almost 35 year history of Jump Rope for Heart, the AHA has been able to impact many lives thanks to the support of events like this.  The purpose of Jump Rope for Heart is to teach students how to take care of their hearts while they experience the joy of being part of a larger program all across the country will serve students for a lifetime.

"This was a great experience," Landry said. "We loved seeing the excitement in the children's eyes and are thankful that the school gave us an opportunity to speak with the kids."

The three standouts were asked to speak to the students about the importance of a healthy heart and exercising. Mettenberger told the children to go outside and exercise for an hour a day like he did when he was their age.

Landry, who attended Dutchtown Middle School, asked the student several questions and called on different children to answer.

Johnson explained to the students that there were three things that they had to do: eat right, get plenty of sleep and play.

"It was a humbling experience talking to the students," said Johnson. "I enjoyed every second of it."
