BATON ROUGE – The LSU’s women’s basketball team swung by Woodlawn Elementary to spend part of its Friday morning with first and fifth graders before beginning preparation with an afternoon practice session for Sunday’s game with Florida.

The elementary school declared Friday ‘LSU Day,’ and teachers and students wore Purple and Gold. The team played multiple games inside the school’s gym with the fifth graders before heading to the first grade classrooms. Both players and coaches read to the students, and some classrooms participated in LSU cheers.

“It gives you time to realize how many little kids look up to you,” junior guard Akilah Bethel said. “You’re basically an idol in their eyes, and that’s important to me.”

The Woodlawn Elementary students were among the 4,000 children who attended LSU’s day game on Tuesday, Dec. 3, which recognized education in the community.

“It was a good experience,” freshman guard Jasmine Rhodes said. “It opened up our views to how little kids see us as basketball players. It just makes us want to work harder.”

LSU meets Florida during a Sunday matinee at the Maravich Center. Tip time is on-tap for 12 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU.

The LSU Sports Radio Network will broadcast the game on Talk 107.3 FM in the Baton Rouge and inside the Geaux Zone at LSUsports.net/live. Patrick Wright, the voice of the Lady Tigers, will call the action.
