WACO, Texas – Junior Philip Primeaux finished in 49th place while running a personal-best 32 minutes, 0.9 seconds to lead his squad to a 17th-place finish, while sophomore Morgan Schuetz crushed her previous personal best by over a minute, finishing in 85th place at 23 minutes, 0.2 seconds at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships.

The men finished with a total of 449 points, slightly edging out UTSA at 454. Junior Stanley Kebenei took home the men’s crown, spearheading Arkansas to receive the team title.

The women finished with a total of 473 points. Senior Marielle Hall from the University of Texas took home the women’s crown, but Arkansas had enough firepower with four top-10 finishers to take home the women’s title.

The cross country team finished with nine runners who achieved personal bests. In addition to Primeaux, juniors Bryan Mutell (33:24.2) and William Wiesler (33:47.4) and sophomores Aaron Koenck (34:17.1) and Travis Pope (33:04.4) conquered personal records on the men’s side. On the women’s side, redshirt freshmen Meghan Charbonnet (23:34.6) and Chaiss Matthews (23:29.8) and freshman Ashley Welborn (23:28.0) joined Schuetz in celebrating personal bests.

Other top finishers for the Tigers included Pope (88th) and Mutell (98th).

Welborn (102nd) and Matthews (103rd) followed Schuetz to the finish line on the women’s side.

“I felt that everyone ran well,” cross country head coach Khadevis Robinson said. “Primeaux ran well, but I thought Morgan, Travis and Ashley were the biggest surprises. Now we must work on having our personal bests be a bit more competitive.”

This wraps up the 2013-14 cross country season for LSU. The first indoor track meet will be in Birmingham, Ala., for the Auburn Indoor Invitational on Jan. 18. The meet will be held at Birmingham Crossplex and time is TBA.
