KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The LSU Lady Tigers (8-14; 1-11 SEC) faced a 4-0 loss to the No.28 University of Tennessee (10-8; 7-4 SEC) Sunday at noon CT at Barksdale Stadium.

The Volunteers started the match with two wins in doubles. Mary Jeremiah and Ariel Morton fell 8-1 to Tennessee’s third-ranked pair of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely in the top spot, and the Vols’ Caitlyn Williams and Jesse Grace followed with an 8-2 win on court three over the Kaitlin Burns and Ella Taylor duo.

“I’m proud of the way the girls responded in singles after the doubles point," head coach Julia S. Sell said. "We really stayed very positive and determined throughout our singles matches. It was a great match. We are doing a lot of great things on the court right now. We just have to keep fighting.”

Tennessee continued its success in singles, as the Vols notched three straight victories to clinch the match.

Freshman Caroline Hudson fell 6-1, 6-1 to Tennessee’s Grace on court six, and No. 114 Burns followed with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to the Vols’ 28th-ranked Boren in the No. 1 spot.

Taylor battled Tennessee’s No. 38 Szekely on court two, and she came within one game of taking the match into the third set of competition. The freshman ultimately fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), clinching the match for the Vols.

The remaining matches were unfinished. Both Morton and Frankenberger completed one game in the third set of competition, and Jeremiah was one game away from putting LSU on the board before ending the day’s match.

LSU will conclude the regular season against the No. 50 University of Arkansas Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at Billingsley Tennis Center.
