Women's Tennis Goes Down at No. 2 Florida, 7-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The LSU women's tennis team (11-10; 4-6 SEC) dropped a 7-0 result at No. 2 Florida (17-1, 10-0 SEC) on Sunday in Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
 
With the win, the Gators earned at least a share of the Southeastern Conference regular season title while extending their home match winning streak to 105. It was also Florida's 35th-straignt SEC regular-season victory.
 
"Florida played really well, you can see why they are the defending national champions and No. 2 in the nation right now," LSU head coach Tony Minnis said.
 
‎LSU's Olivia Howlett and Yvette Vlaar fell 8-2 on doubles court two at the hands of No. 13 Lauren Embree and Joanna Mather to open the action.
 
Top-ranked Sophie Oyen and Allie Will then clinched the doubles point 8-1 over Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger on court one.
 
Alexandra Cercone and Caroline Hitimana sealed the doubles sweep 8-3 against Kaitlin Burns and Ariel Morton on court three.
 
The Gators never let up when the focus shifted to singles as No. 19 Mather defeated Howlett 6-3, 6-1 on court two.
 
Oyen won 6-2, 6-1 over Burns on court three before No. 11 Embree gave Florida the dual match decision 6-2, 6-0 against Wolf on court one.
 
‎Hitimana overcame Yvette Vlaar 6-1, 6-1 on court five, and Cercone fought past Frankenberger 6-3, 6-2 on court four.
 
Olivia Janowicz earned a late break in the first set and never looked back to close the day with 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ariel Morton on court six.
 
The Lady Tigers host Arkansas at W.T. Dub Robinson Stadium to finish the SEC regular season on Senior Day at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
