TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Six members of the LSU women's tennis team will compete in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships beginning Friday at the University of Alabama.

Kaitlin Burns, Caroline Hudson, Mary Jeremiah, Ariel Morton and Ella Taylor will partake in both singles and doubles competition. Ebie Wilson will compete in doubles only, and this marks the senior's first action of the fall season.

"This is a great chance to get a look at our competition," head coach Julia Sell said. "Their whole teams will be there. Everything we've played thus fall has been two or three players, so I haven't been able to get a full look at everyone's lineup. I'll be taking a lot of mental notes for the future this weekend.

"Regionals is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, because now we've had a few tournaments under our belt. We get to go out there and really get a lot more realistic view of where we're at going into our spring season."

Main draw singles and doubles play begins Friday at 9 a.m. CT, and all matches will be played at either the Alabama Tennis Stadium, the Alabama Student Recreation Center Tennis Complex or the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

Every doubles match will begin at 9 a.m. Caroline Hudson and Ella Taylor will battle Georgiana Patrasc and Sarai Flores of Mississippi St., and a Mary Jeremiah/Ebie Wilson duo will face Sophie Rufyikiri and Justyna Krol of ULM, and the Kaitlin Burns and Ariel Morton pair will take on Jacqueline Kasler and Jen Pfeifler of Auburn.

Hudson and Taylor will compete together in doubles for the second time this season, as their last doubles play together was seen at the Longhorn Invitational.

"We've certainly worked on doubles a lot," Sell said. "We've done a lot more doubles, a lot more volleys and a lot more strategizing for doubles leading up to this weekend. We've also been working pretty hard on slight individual things. Each player had different things they were focusing on, but they are still focusing on the foundation of their games; with their serves, returns and attack of the ball."

Burns, seeded 9-16 in the tournament, begins her singles competition against Jessica Northcutt of Samford at 9 a.m., along with all other singles matches. Taylor will be competing against (9-16) Emily Flickinger of Auburn.

Morton and Hudson will both battle players from ULM, as they take on Justyna Krol and Sophie Rufyikiri, respectively. Jeremiah will face Lyubove Dorofeeva of Troy.
