COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 49th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team is set for another weekend of SEC battles beginning with No. 65 South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
The Lady Tigers hold a 9-8 (2-6 SEC) season record after topping No. 69 Mississippi State on Friday and falling to No. 32 Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon. Due to weather delays and Ole Miss’ travel schedule, singles matches were played first on Sunday. Joana Vale Costa garnered another win on court one, losing just seven games in three sets to capture a point for LSU.
“The culture of this program has changed and taken positive strides forward,” said LSU head coach Julia S. Sell. “We still have a long way to go to reach our ultimate goal, but our results show that we are on the right path.”
South Carolina holds a 20-4 series record against the Lady Tigers after capturing a 5-1 win on March 31, 2013.
“South Carolina is a very talented team,” said Sell. “Our conference is the strongest that it has ever been, and you have to be ready to battle every single match.”
