BATON ROUGE -- The LSU women's tennis team (2-0) was picked as the No. 16 recruiting class in the winter rankings reported by the Tennis Recruiting Network, marking the highest-ranked recruiting class in team history.
No. 45 LSU signed three five-star prospects set to begin play in the fall in Skylar Holloway, Gabrielle Otero and Abigail Owens.
Holloway, from Oxon Hill, Md., takes the No. 74 spot on the national rankings, serves as Maryland's No. 2 player and currently trains at the Tennis Center at College Park with Frank Salazar and Vesa Ponkka.
Otero, from Albuquerque, N.M., ranks at No. 49 nationally, holds the No. 1 position in New Mexico and maintains an 18-9 overall record. She recently competed in the final round of doubles in the USTA National Winter Championships partnering with Jamie Loeb.
Owens, from Duluth, Ga., is the No. 47 player in the nation and Georgia's No.2 ranked player. Currently playing for Peachtree Ridge High School, she holds a 13-5 record against other five-star recruits and maintains an overall 38-17 record.
Not included in the rankings is sophomore transfer Mary Jeremiah, who earned the highest status possible as a blue chip recruit while at Peachtree Ridge High School. She started play for the Lady Tigers last fall, and she competed in the No. 2 spot in LSU's two spring-opening dual matches.
Head coach Julia S. Sell is one of five first-year coaches to earn a spot on the list, alongside head coaches Rodney Harmon of No. 22 Georgia Tech, Melissa Schaub of No. 58 of Ohio State, Laura Granville of No. 71 Princeton and Patrick Sullivan of No. 75 Houston.
The Lady Tigers are also one of five SEC schools on the list, topping the reigning National Champion No. 1 Florida in the No.19 spot, No. 25 Vanderbilt following at No. 20 and No. 13 Texas A&M at No. 21.
