BATON ROUGE - A photo of an LSU billboard in Afghanistan went viral on the Internet Friday, appearing on and numerous blogs and message boards across the country.

Though there was some conjecture the photograph of the billboard was not real, LSU was contacted Saturday morning by the platoon leader whose company was responsible for spreading LSU spirit around the world.

Sergeant First Class Danny Kosick, the platoon sergeant for 1st Platoon (VooDoo) of the 926th engineer company from Baker, is part of a group of soldiers and LSU fans from the Baton Rouge area who are serving this Christmas season in Afghanistan.  They regularly fly an LSU flag that was given to them by Tiger head coach Les Miles at their Family Day before they deployed for Afghanistan.  The company inscribed "#1 LSU" on an abandoned billboard to show their support of the Tigers.

"LSU football is one of the main things that keep us going while on deployment," said Kosick.  "Throughout the season we have regularly woken up very early to watch games before our missions.  We are proud of the Tigers and can't wait for another BCS title."

Tiger fans who want to send a Christmas message to the 926th engineer company can go to their Facebook page - 1st platoon (voodoo) 926 EN CO - or write to
