MINNEAPOLIS -- Sophomore Cassie Weil finished seventh and earned First-Team All-America Honors on platform during the final day of NCAA Championships at the Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Weil broke her own program on platform during prelims with a score of 311.55. It’s the first First-Team All-American Honor for an LSU Diver since 2007 when Rachel Ware and Hali Saucier earned it on platform.

“Given her performance last year and just missing the finals, it was a huge goal for her to get on the podium and finish in the top eighth,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “It’s so great to see her hard work and dedication pay off with her success today.

“Overall, we had a great year,” Shaffer said. “The women worked really hard and everyone achieved high performances. Cassie rose to the top to receive the honors. The field is really tough and at such an elite level. We now have our sights set on next year to get back to NCAA Championships.

The Lady Tigers finished 36th overall with 17 points. Georgia won the NCAA Championship for the sixth time.

“This was such a great experience for our program,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Come into this meet without any seniors and all underclassmen gives these women the understanding of what we need to do to raise our performance. Getting here, setting a school record, scoring points, and leaving with an All American is definitely a positive sign for the future with this young team.

Kara Kopcso, Caley Oquist and Amber Carter concluded their first individual appearances at the Championships on Saturday.

In the 200 fly, Kopcso finished 28th with a time of 1:57.08.

Oquist earned a 42nd place finish in the 200 back with a time of 1:56.42.

Carter finished the 100 free in 49.88

The LSU men conclude the 2013-14 season when they ravel to Austin, Texas for the 2014 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships March 27-29.
