SHREVEPORT, La. -- The LSU Men's and Women's Swimming teams opened up the season with a pair of 64-38 victories over Centenary in the programs' first ever meeting.
"It was a great experience for our team to get some travel under their belts early in the season," Swimming Coach Dave Geyer said. "The freshmen class needed to learn the intricacies of travel to compete at a high level. We definitely are in a point in the season where we need to put some more hay in the barn before we begin to compete against some tough SEC opponents."
Both the men's and women's teams registered the fastest swims in each event. The meet was structured with a revised format with 50-yard and 100-yard stroke swims.
On the men's side, junior Michael Saco built off of his impressive summer and posted a 50 free mark of 21.17 in a first place swim.
Senior Timmy Dasinger posted a solid 100 butterfly time of 52.47 in victory as well.
In relay competition, the women's 200 medley relay consisting of sophomores Jennifer Reese, Marlene Niemi, Amber Carter and Katlin Sepp took gold with a time of 1:55.36. The men's 200 medley relay led off by sophomore Dillon Love and followed by senior Zack Wepasnick, Saco and senior Nick Kunkel touched the wall first with a mark of 1:33.66.
The divers will join the swimmers in the team's annual Purple and Gold Intrasquad Meet on Sept. 28 at the LSU Natatorium. All admission to home meets is free.
