KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The LSU Diving team had three male divers and three female divers finish in the top-12 of the platform event during the final day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational.

"We got a little bit better as we went on in the meet," Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. "We were strong on platform. Overall, I thought we had a really good performance for all three days of the competition as we look forward to the SEC championships. We used these multi-day events as preparation for that."

Over the course of the meet, LSU had the most athletes of any of the 15 teams compete in a final or finish in the top-12. LSU sent eight divers to the one-meter and three-meter finals during the first two days of the meet.

The Tigers competed against SEC foes Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. In addition, Clemson, Duke, James Madison, North Carolina, Penn State, Southern Methodist, South Dakota State and Virginia were also present.

"The strength of our team and our depth was well represented at this meet," Shaffer said.

On platform, junior Daniel Helm claimed silver and attained a score of 361.70.

Junior Kevin Leong recorded a score of 324.00 and finished in fifth.

Junior Sean McKinney ended his run in 10th place and totaled a score of 302.60.

On the women's side, freshman Cassie Weil finished third overall with a score of 254.75.

Senior Elle Schmidt posted an eighth place finish with a score of 227.25.

Freshman Allie Alter ended her run one spot behind Schmidt with a total of 224.00.

"We need to continue building on what we have done," Shaffer said. "We are going to come back to Baton Rouge and get a week of training before the men go against SMU this Saturday. We have three more competitions this season. We are moving in the right direction to have a successful championship season."
