BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Diving team will open up the 2013 season in Knoxville, Tenn., for the three day Tennessee Diving Invitational.
"It is important to move quickly from our holiday break right into competition in order to prepare for our rapidly approaching championship season," Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. "This will be a large competition with the strongest and deepest field we've faced so far. It will be critical to be on our 'A' game."
The Tigers will be competing against SEC foes Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. In addition, Clemson, Duke, James Madison, North Carolina, Penn State, Southern Methodist, San Diego State and Virginia will be present.
"We are looking to continue on the success the divers displayed this fall," Shaffer said. "This is championship style competition. We'll have the opportunity to compete multiple times on three consecutive days in a prelims and finals format, which replicates our SEC and National Championships."
LSU captured three of six possible individual titles earlier this season at the Auburn Diving Invitational. At the event, junior Sean McKinney set the LSU all-time three-meter record with a score of 415.50. Freshman Cassie Weil swept the one-meter (283.55) and three-meter (329.30) events.
Diving prelims will begin at 10:30 a.m (CT) each day. Live results can be found on Divemeets.com.
