MINNEAPOLIS – The LSU Women’s Swimming and Diving team competed in four events on day one of the NCAA Championships at the Minnesota Aquatic Center.

“Today we had three woman have their first individual performance at the national championships,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Taryn MacKenzie and Leah Troskot also experience their first championships with the relay.

“The goal is to perform better than where we are seeded. I think with what we did see in our races today, there are much better performances ahead of us this weekend,” Geyer added.

In the second heat of the 50 freestyle, junior Amber Carter touched the wall in 22.66.

Kara Kopcso and Caley Oquist competed in the 200 IM. In heat four, Kopcso swam a 1:59.55 and in heat three Oquist finished in 1:59.93.

The 400-medley relay team of MacKenzie, Carter, Oquist and Troskot finished in 3:38.30.

Cassie Weil also competed on the one-meter springboard. Weil finished 32nd with score of 243.40.

“Cassie had a really good first day on one-meter, but missed one dive.” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Cassie is really consistent on three-meter and platform so she will get better as the days go on. This is elite level of competition and there is no room for error.”

Lady Tigers will compete in five events during day two of competition. Oquist and Weil will highlight in their individual qualifying events of the 100 backstroke and three-meter springboard.

LSU will also compete in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays on Friday.

Prelims begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and live video will be available on gophersports.com. Finals will begin at 7 p.m. and available on ESPN3.com.

A full recap will be available on lsusports.net at the conclusion of each day. For more information and updates on LSU Swimming and Diving please visit LSUsports.net, ‘like’ us on Facebook at LSU Swimming and Diving or follow us on Twitter @LSUswimdive.
