MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomore Cassie Weil earned her second bid to NCAA Championships after finishing third overall on three-meter with a two-list score of 693.10.
“I am very proud of the Tiger divers today. They were relentless,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said.
Senior Sean McKinney just missed out on a top-three finish on one-meter. McKinney finished fourth with a 12-dive total of 764.50. Kevin Leong also made the final of the men’s one-meter and finished 12th with a score of 700.40.
Alex Bettridge and Allie Alter also reached the three-meter final. Bettridge finished in sixth place with a total score of 663.60. Alter finished 18th overall with a score of 579.10.
“Although Cassie’s third place finish was the highlight of the day, Sean and Alex’s competitive resolve was incredible,” Shaffer said. “They were both right in the hunt until the very end. It was a fiercely competitive field.
Freshmen Zakary Rowton and Katie Lagarde missed out on finals on day two. Rowton finished one-meter with a score of 277.15. Lagarde finished three-meter with a total score of 211.45.
“Tomorrow is platform and it’s one last chance to earn NCAA berths,” Shaffer added.
Day three of competition begins with women’s platform at 11 a.m. Men’s platform follows at 2 p.m. Finals begin 15 minutes after the prelims.
The Zone ‘D’ region consists of divers from LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Tulane, Minnesota, Arkansas, Northern Iowa, Missouri, Iowa, TCU, Iowa State, Kansas, Houston, SMU, South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Iowa, North Texas and Wisconsin at Green Bay.
