ATHENS, Ga. -- Sophomore Caley Oquist broke the LSU women’s team record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.67. Oquist’s time was enough for sixth in the A final. Junior Frank Greeff competed in the A final of the men’s 200 butterfly. Greeff finished in 1:43.95 for sixth place. The South African broke his own team record in the prelims with a 1:43.66.
“It was another great day for the Tigers,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Caley and Frank setting new program records in their selective events and then finishing off with the women’s 400 medley relay record. We need to carry the momentum from tonight into the final day and finish this meet off as strong as possible.”
The LSU women’s team finished day four in a tie for sixth with a score of 393. The men’s team moved up to eighth with a 425-point total.
Sean McKinney finished fifth on platform with a score of 363.45. In prelims, the senior posted a score of 395.50 for a personal best. Kevin Leong just missed the finals with a score of 339.80 and a ninth-place finish.
“I’m happy with what our guys did on platform,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Sean got his personal high score in prelims and finished fifth overall. Kevin just missed making the final, but he had a really great performance. All three guys did a great job.”
The Lady Tiger relay team of Oquist, Torrey Bussey, Amber Carter and Leah Troskot also set a program record in the 400-medley relay team with a time of 3:35.68. The women’s team broke the program record and finished eighth overall. The men’s 400-medley relay team of Logan Rysemus, Gabe Rooker, Frank Greeff and Alex Linge finished sixth overall with a time of 3:11.07.
Freshman Kara Kopcso took first in the B final of the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.13.
In the B final of the 100 backstroke, Logan Rysemus finished sixth with a time of 47.77. Rysemus posted a time of 47.43 in the prelims. The freshman then led off the 400-medley relay with a 47.38, which is the fourth-fastest time in LSU history. Michael Young finished third in the C final of the 100 back in 47.82. In the prelims, Daniel Swietlicki posted the eighth-fastest time of the program with a time of 48.30.
Freshman Colleen O’Neil moved up to fourth all-time in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.19 in the prelims. In the C final, O’Neil touched the wall sixth.
The final day of SEC Championships begins at 9 a.m. with prelims of the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke and women’s platform diving. Finals of the 1650 freestyle begin at 5 p.m. Event finals start at 6 p.m. along with the 400 freestyle relay. Live video of the finals can be found at ESPN3.com
