ATHENS, Ga. -- Freshman Kara Kopcso and junior Frank Greeff led the LSU Swimming and Diving team with the second-fastest times in program history in the 200 IM on day two of the 2014 SEC Championships.

Kopcso started off the night for the Lady Tigers with a first place finish in the ‘C’ final. Kopcso posted a time of 1:58.67, which is the second fastest time in program history.

Greeff followed in the men’s 200 IM ‘B’ final with a time of 1:46.25 for a fifth place finish and second all-time for LSU.

“It was a great first full day of individual competition,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Our athletes are posting faster in the night session and they’re getting comfortable. There are three more days of competition and I think everyone will be ready.”

The women’s team is in seventh place with a total score of 191. The men’s team sits 10th overall with a point total of 208.5.

Also in the women’s 200 IM ‘C’ final were Caley Oquist in fifth place and Sophie Weber in seventh. Oquist finished with a time of 1:59.17, which is the fifth best all-time for LSU. Weber finished with a mark of 1:59.38 for the seventh fastest time in program history.

Amber Carter and Leah Troskot competed in the ‘C’ final of the women’s 50 free. Carter tied her personal best of 22.58 in a third place finish. Troskot notched a time of 22.83 for a seventh place finish.

In the ‘C’ final of the men’s 50 free, Marco Gonzalez finished fourth with a mark of 19.93. It ranks ninth on LSU’s top-time list. Michael Saco finished sixth with a mark of 20.06.

The Lady Tiger team of Carter, Troskot, Danielle Stirrat and Rainey White finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.34)

The men’s team of Saco, Gonzalez, Alex Linge and Tyler Crosson finished sixth in the 200 freestyle relays (1:18.19).

In the prelims of the men’s 3-meter, Sean McKinney finished 11th overall with a final score of 318. Kevin Leong followed up with a 15th place finish with a six-dive score of 300.05. Zakary Rowton rounded out the men with a 21st overall finish and total of 270.

“A positive is that all the men scored,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Zak is learning what it’s like to compete in his first SEC Championships. Kevin and Sean’s performance were not in line with what they can do. Sean was in a position to make it to finals, but he wasn’t consistent. The ability and talent is there, but it hasn’t come through yet. They have one more event on platform and it’s one of our strongest events.”

In the morning prelims, Megan Cox marked a time of 4:49.28 in the 500 free for the fourth fastest time in program history. Devon Dabney followed with the fifth fastest time in LSU history for a mark of 4:49.35.

Also in the 500 free, Elliot Dewlen and Matthew Schaefer swam the fourth and ninth fastest times in program history. Dewlen posted a time of 4:25.17 and Schaefer a time of 4:28.30.

Brandon Goldman’s 1:49.24 in the 200 IM is the ninth fastest time in LSU Swimming history.

Day three of SEC Championships begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning with prelims of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle. The women’s 3-meter prelims will follow at 12 p.m. Finals of the events will take place in the night session starting at 5 p.m. Live video can be found at Georgiadogs.com
