BATON ROUGE – Sean McKinney scored a 425.70 on 3-meter and Alex Bettridge scored 336.07 on 1-meter to break two LSU diving records in a win over Oklahoma Baptist.

The LSU men won 51-26 over the Bison while the women won 54-26 over the Lady Bison. LSU won 14 out of 16 possible relays as well as all four diving events.

“It was a different format and I was telling the men and women that we really needed to just step up and race, ”LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Oklahoma Baptist has some really talented swimmers and we saw it right away. We responded well and fought all morning. I liked how we responded in those tough situations. It was good to see us have fun in this different atmosphere and format.”

LSU got out to a hot start again. Both the men and women won the 3x100 butterfly relay. LSU’s “A” team of Kara Kopcso, Emily Weaner and Rainey White won it for the Lady Tigers (2:48.12) and the team of Frank Greeff, Alexander Linge, and Devin McCaffrey took first for the men (2:27.35)

Going into the 3x100 backstroke relay, the LSU women’s team of Makenna Wilson, Caley Oquist and Sophie Weber finished first (2:47.27) and Logan Rysemus, Daniel Swietlicki and Michael Young took first for the men (2:25.94).

The next event was the 3x100 breaststroke. Again, both the men and women won. The Lady Tigers won with Jessica Kopcso, Taryn MacKenzie and Colleen O'Neil (3:14.14) and the men won with Rooker, Ricardo Alvarado Jimenez and Garrett House (2:48.32).

The Lady Tigers “A” team of Oquist, Torrey Bussey, Kara Kopcso and Leah Troskot took first in the 400-medley relay (3:48.57). The men’s team of Young, Jiminez, Greeff and Marco Gonzalez also took first with a mark of 3:21.10.

The swimmers took one final break and in the last four events, LSU won three. Both the men and women won the 3x200 medley relay. The Lady Tigers won with Kopcso, Weber and O’Neil (6:16.90) while the men won with the team of Greeff, Rysemus and Brandon Goldman (5:40.26)

The men then won the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Linge, Michael Saco, Gonzalez and Tyler Crosson took first with a mark of 3:00.83.

On the diving side, it was season and career bests all around. Katie Lagarde finished second on 1-meter with a season high score of 254.92. On the men’s 1-meter, Kevin Leong scored a career high 384.15 for the second highest score in LSU diving history. Zakary Rowton also finished second with a career high score of 347.10.

On 3-meter, Cassie Weil finished with a season high score of 366.45. Allie Alter (334.87) and Katie Lagarde (333.90) then posted career high scores for second and third place finishes.

“We relaxed and just performed today,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “We settled in and there wasn’t really a lot of high pressure. I talked to the divers and I wanted them to focus in even though it was a more relaxed environment. We broke some records and across the board we dove really well. It was a good reward for all of the hard work we’ve put in during 2014.”

The LSU Swimming and Diving team finishes off the 2013-14 home schedule Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M. It will be the final meet for the seniors.
