Men's Swimming & Diving to Host SMU
Assistant Communications Director
BATON ROUGE -- The LSU men’s swimming and diving team returns to the pool to take on SMU after a two-month break since competition Thursday, at 2 p.m., at the LSU Natatorium.
The men’s diving team returns to dual meet competition after success at the Georgia Diving Invite, Alabama Diving Invitational and USA Diving Winter Championships
“We just returned from a very successful diving invitational and it was a really good meet,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “SMU brings a lot of strength and talent. We competed against their divers in Athens and we both had a lot of success. We’ll be able to narrow that competitive field and go head to head. We’re excited to get back in our pool and start competing.”
Senior Kevin Leong also had a successful weekend at the Georgia Diving Invite. Leong made the finals of the men’s 3-meter and finished sixth. He also finished seventh on platform and narrowly missed the final of the 1-meter with a 13th place finish.
In just his first appearance in a USA diving senior final, Sean McKinney finished sixth on 1-meter. McKinney also earned a third place finish on 3-meter at the Georgia Diving Invite.
Freshman Zakary Rowton posted a career high score on 3-meter at the Alabama Diving Invite. Rowton finished with a score of 324.80
The swimmers return to the pool after almost a two-month break from competition. Junior Frank Greeff earned his second win of the season at the Art Adamson Invitational. Greeff got a huge win in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 1:44.77. It’s the sixth best time in the Southeastern Conference.
Junior Michael Young finished second in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 1:45.92. Young also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.25.
“It’s going to be interesting to see how our team and SMU’s team step up and compete,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “We both competed at midseason so this is our first meet since mid November. It will be interesting and I think our men are focused and ready to race well. Our preparation has been good so it’s a simple task of getting our hands to the wall first.”
