BATON ROUGE -- Freshman diver Alex Bettridge has been named the SEC Female Freshman Diver of the Year, as announced by the league office on Friday.

The Austin, Texas native exploded on the scene for LSU this season. In her first season as a Tiger, Bettridge shattered the program's three-meter record. In addition, she claimed the fourth best platform mark and the seventh best one-meter score.

Bettridge becomes diving coach Doug Shaffer's sixth SEC Freshman Diver of the Year. At the SEC Championships, Bettridge earned a bronze medal in the three-meter with a program best 366.85 and sixth in the one-meter with a total of 302.60. She also posted a 212.60 on the platform.

"The honor goes to the individual athletes that earn those credentials," Shaffer said. "It is nice to get that recognition though. We're bringing in quality student athletes to LSU that are performing at an SEC level. It is a great award for Alex. Her hard work and dedication was recognized in that way."
