Women's Golf Second After Day 1 in Dallas

DALLAS – The 18th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers got off to a great start in their final event of the regular season, standing in second Friday after the first round of the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational at the DAC.
LSU posted a good first round in the 54-hole event of 301, 13-over par, seven shots off the lead of Baylor at 6-over 294. It is four shots back to Oklahoma State at 17-over 305 with Kansas in fourth at 306 and North Carolina, Texas Tech and UTSA at 19-over 307.
On a day when the average score was almost 79, LSU posted four scores under the average led by freshman Carly Ray Goldstein at 1-over 73. Goldstein, a freshman, bogeyed three of the first five holes, but shot 2-under par over the final 13 holes to finish at 1-over and in a tie for seventh place in the individual competition.
Goldstein is two off the 1-under lead of Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas, with five golfers at even par.
Senior Ali Lucas posted a 3-over 75, while freshman Caroline Nistrup posted a 4-over 76. LSU’s final counting score was 5-over 77 from junior Madelene Sagstrom. Lucas is in a group tied for 12th place after the opening round.
LSU will join Baylor and Oklahoma State in the final wave of the day off the front nine beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the second round of the event.
