SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Senior Lindsay Gahm posted a 4-under round of 68 to lead the LSU Lady Tigers golf team to an overall under-par round on the first day of The Alamo Invitational at The Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

LSU is -3 for the day, 285, tied for fifth with host UTSA. Defending champion Oklahoma rolled out a 10-under par 279 for the first round of the 54-hole event that runs through Tuesday.

Gahm had a sensational round in posting her first under par round of the fall season, actually shooting 6-under over the last 14 holes after bogeying the second and third holes of her afternoon. The Louisville, Ky., native birdied 5, 6 and 7 (including two par 5s) to quickly get to under par for the round. The 68 puts her right near the top of the leaderboard in a tie for third with five other golfers, one shot out of the -5 lead of Sarah Schober of Florida at 67 and Laura Restrepo of Louisville, also at 67.

Three LSU golfers posted under par and 26 from the total field also bested par on the first day of the event. Senior Ali Lucas and freshman Caroline Nistrup both continued their outstanding fall play by posting 1-under 71s, while sophomore Nadine Dreher had the other counting score of 3-over 75.

Lucas and Nistrup are tied for 18th place after the opening day on a day when the 81 players averaged 72.99 over the Briggs Ranch course.

The five LSU Lady Tigers combined for 20 birdies during the course of the round.

The second round begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. with tee time waves and LSU will be paired with Texas A&M and UTSA beginning at 9:10 a.m. in the second wave off No. 1.
