Lady Tigers Continue Run of Solid Play in Tar Heel

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – LSU junior golfer Madelene Sagstrom continued her strong play Friday firing an even par 72 in the first round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
 
Sagstrom is in a big group tied for 16th place after the opening day of the 18-team tournament. Sagstrom has now in the first four rounds of this six-rounds in nine-day two tournament swing, has fired three even par rounds and one of 4-under.
 
LSU posted a round of 7-over par 295 in the opening day of three day event and stands in seventh place, 10 shots out of the 285 (-3) total of Vanderbilt. Duke is second at 286 with Auburn third at 291. They are followed by Ole Miss and Oklahoma in fourth at 292 and NC State at 293 is the last team in front of the Lady Tigers.
 
Sagstrom was joined in the counting four scored by freshman Caroline Nistrup who shot 1-over 73 and is in a group at 22-ove par. LSU’s two seniors, Lindsay Gahm and Ali Lucas, both posted 3-over rounds of 75.
 
The Lady Tigers tied for the round lead in play at the par-5 holes, tying with Vanderbilt at 3-under par. The Tigers were tied for third in the field of 18 with 12 birdies. Sagstrom played the par 3s in 1-under par, while Lucas played the par 5s in 1-under. Nistrup was the best on the par 4s at even par. Nistrup and Sagstrom were in a group tied for second in birdies with five, while Gahm had 15 pars in her round, which was tied for best par total of the day.
