HANAHAN, S.C. – The 22nd ranked LSU Lady Tiger golf team posted the fifth lowest round of the second round Monday as they stand in eighth place in the 20-team Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Golf Club.

The tournament, the season opener for LSU, will conclude on Tuesday.

LSU posted a 3-over total of 291 to stand at 10-over par 586 after 36 holes of the event. Clemson shot a 6-under round of 282 to stand at 9-under par 567 and in the lead by six shots over Mississippi State at 3-under par 573.

All-Southeastern Conference junior golfer Madelene Sagstrom had five birdies in a 1-under round of 71 for the Lady Tigers, while freshman Caroline Nistrup in her first tournament posted an eagle three on the par 5 18th to finish at even par 72 for the day. Senior Ali Lucas, who opened with a 71 on Sunday, remained in the thick of things with a 1-over 73. Junior Lindsay Gahm was the other counting score a 3-over par 75.

“We have played solid golf the first two rounds,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We want to continue that on Tuesday. The team is playing hard and I’m pleased with what I have seen in our first event.”

Lucas stands in a tie for 16th place after rounds of 71-73 at even par 144. The Crowley native is in position for her best finish at LSU since transferring from ULM prior to the 2012-13 season. Lucas has 27 pars through the first 36 holes, tied for seventh in the competition.

Sagstrom has had eight birdies over the first two days and moved up 18 spots to 29th on Monday with her 71 after a 75 in the opening round to stand at 146. Nistrup’s eagle on 18 makes her one of 11 players in the tournament to record an eagle. Nistrup is tied for 22nd at 1-over 145 (73-72). Sagstrom and Nistrup have played the par 5s in the first two rounds at 5-under par each.
