HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The LSU women's golf team posted its best finish of the season, tying for second with Vanderbilt in the final round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Sunday at the Long Cove Club.

Sophomore Madelene Sagstrom from Sweden also had her second top five finish of the year, posting a runnerup finish in the individual competition, which is her best finish of her career at LSU. It was the seventh career top 10 in less than two full years with the Lady Tigers.

"We were so close," said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. "But it was a great learning experience for this team. They haven't been there before (Sunday). We'll be better for it. We just keep improving and moving up every tournament. Now we can look forward to our next event here at home."

The tournament should again send LSU forward in the Golfstat rankings from their present 35 position as they tied or finished ahead of seven teams ranked higher than LSU entering the weekend.

LSU had a final round of 15 over 299 which game LSU a final total of 28-over par 880 (295-286-299). Vanderbilt felt back from first to the tie for second with LSU at 880 (296-282-302). In the battle of SEC teams, it was 4th-ranked Alabama who came from behind to win the tournament with a final round of 291.

The Crimson Tide finished four shots clear of LSU and Vandy at 24-over par 876 (297-288-291) over the 6,211 yards, par 71 course.

Sagstrom finished at even par for the three-day event with rounds of 71-67-75. Arizona State's Noemi Jimenez of Arizona State ended up the winner of the event with a 4-under score of 209 (72-69-68). Sagstrom's previous best finish came last year when she finished third in an event.

Freshman Elise Bradley, after moving up over 30 spots on Saturday, moved up another six on Sunday with a 2-over 73 and finished in a tie for 14th at 9-over 222 (79-70-73). Junior Ali Lucas posted a three-over 74 to finish at 12-over 225 (74-77-74) and LSU's other counting score in the final round was a 6-over 77 by Lindsay Gahm.

Now the Lady Tigers set their attention to the team's home event, the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, March 22-24 at the University Club in Baton Rouge.
