HILTON HEAD, S. C. – LSU’s Caroline Nistrup tied for the individual title Sunday at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club before losing in a one-hole playoff.

The freshman from Denmark who is ranked 15th in the country in the Golfstat performance rankings, posted a 54-hole total of 2-under 211 after rounds of 71-69-71 on the par-71 layout. Second-ranked Yu Liu of Duke, who started the day in fourth, shot 70 on the final day to get home as well at 2-under 211 (69-72-70).

The pair returned to the par 4 18th hole at Long Cove for the playoffs and Liu was able to get a 20-footer for birdie to drop for the win after Nistrup had her 15-footer lip out for birdie.

For Nistrup, who is one of the tops in the Southeastern Conference in stroke average, it is her third top five finish in the first six events of the season. Nistrup led the 90-player field in scoring on the par fours at 2-under and was 1-under par on the par 5 holes with nine birdies and 38 pars in the 54-hole event.

Meanwhile, the LSU women’s team was posting its best round of the weekend with an 8-over round of 292. LSU finished the event at 33-over par on rounds of 297, 296 and 292 for a total of 885 and that was good enough for a tie for third with Oklahoma. Duke, forced to play with just four players and counting every score, won the tournament with a score of 10-over 862 (284, 291, 287). Vandy was second at 20-over 872.

Besides the even par round of Nistrup on the final day, LSU also counted another even par round from Madelene Sagstrom, a 74 from Nadine Dreher and 76s from Ali Lucas and Lindsay Gahm. Sagstrom posts an eight-over 54-hole total of 221 on rounds of 75-75-71 to just miss a top 20 finish in a tie for 21st place.

It was also LSU’s third team finish in the top five this year in the six events.

The Lady Tigers will now come home and begin final preparations for the team’s home event which highlights the 2014 season, the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge. The event is set for begin on Friday, March 21. The event will run through Sunday, March 23 and admission to the U-Club to watch the action will be free.
