CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - On the heels of a best-ever finish by Lindsay Gahm and another strong performance by Madelene Sagstrom, the LSU Lady Tigers golf team gets right back into play with their third tournament of the fall season, the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course.
The first round is set for a 7:51 a.m. first tee time Friday off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees on the par-72 layout which will play at 6,285 yards.
Gahm finished in a tie for fifth last weekend at the NCAA Fall Preview with rounds of 73-72-71 for even par 216, while Sagstrom, less than a week after returning from the World Amateur Team event in Turkey, finished in a tie for 16th place at 3-over 219.
Junior Gahm and sophomore Sagstrom were part of the LSU lineup a year when LSU won the Tar Heel Invitational. With no senior and LSU's three capable freshmen - Elise Bradley, Nadine Dreher and Ali Lucas - all playing in this event, the Lady Tigers will be fielding one of its youngest five-person lineups in quite some time.
Besides LSU and host North Carolina the field includes: Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Central Florida, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.
"Lindsay and Madelene did a great job for us last week and we want to continue moving forward," said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. "This is a course we have always enjoyed playing and we want to do our best to get off to a good start and take things one round at a time on Friday."
The 54-hole event runs through Sunday.
