BATON ROUGE – The LSU Lady Tigers remain ranked to start another golf season as Golfweek announced LSU is No. 24 in its preseason poll which it is releasing on a day-by-day basis this week.

The Lady Tigers finished at 18th in the final Golfweek/Sagarin rankings a year ago after making the NCAA regional round of the post-season.

Of the year, Golfweek writers posted: “An up-and-down fall led to a more consistent end of the season for LSU. There were six top 5s, including a fifth-place finish at the SEC Championship, but LSU was a disappointing 20th at the NCAA Central Regional.”

LSU loses seniors Lindsay Gahm and Ali Lucas but return All-SEC selections senior Madelen Sagstrom and sophomore Caroline Nistrup. Both players, along with Nadine Dreher, are headed this week for the women’s World Amateur Team Championships in Japan. LSU opens its 2014-15 season on Sept. 19 at the Mason Rudolph Championships in Franklin, Tenn.

Of the fall outlook for the Lady Tigers, Golfweek writes: “In Nistrup and Sagstrom, LSU has a strong one-two punch. Expect Carly Ray Goldstein, a sophomore from Coral Springs, Fla., to contribute this season, too, after a strong summer during which she advanced to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Head coach Karen Bahnsen also adds a pair of freshmen to this year’s lineup. LSU will play a very quality schedule and will have to work for its successes, but the fight is there.”
